Due to the sheer disappointment in the comments I have received on here, I am going to close my account. I do in fact apologize to those who actually do enjoy my artwork. I just feel that the value of appreciation on this site is really horrible unless your a fan artist or have done fan art to get attention. I refuse to drop my standards as an artist in order to be noticed here, therefore I am going to take my leave. If anyone who does appreciate my work please post your name on here before JULY 14th and I will gladly keep you updated with my artwork and such.
Hoping all is well,

And it's sad.
The majority of good artists go unnoticed, while mediocre to average artists who draw nothing but fan art get millions of page views, favorites, and comments.
I commend you for refusing to drop your standards.
Keep me posted on the art status, y0.

And yes, the first quote is awesome. I found it while browsing around for 'what if' jokes and the like. I laughed when I read it and told myself that I HAD to put it in my DA signature.

Obviously I have the same issue. It's a sad thing and I personally dislike it much.
BUT There ARE original artists that DOES get noticed. I'm planning on being one of them. Yes it's hard to get noticed with your own characters and images, but some ppl WILL notice it.
Popularity isn't anything. I've tried to leave here oh SO many times because I just wanted to give up on this community's attitude. There is lots of immature people come here too, and I definitely get pissed at some of the people that commented on the above piece. They just asked why I didn't put espeon and it proves NUMBERS AREN'T ANYTHING. There's still a handful of people that +favorited my original works without +faving my fan arts, and there's people that do give me critiques and good input. I had to work hard for that, constantly nagging for them.
For me I take that as a challenge. Phil does too. If you could get your name out WITHOUT relying on fan art... damn do you know how satisfying and such BIG accomplishment that would be?! You have system 5 to work on, advertise that to the max, give character sheets, maybe a mini comic... there's other ways to enter in the main streams.
There's good and bad points to fan art, but I'm sure you thought them out already so I'm keepin it simple.
I just ignore majority of the simple one line comments, but thinking optimistically, they thought it was at least "eye catching" enough to post ANYTHING.
Well those are all my opinions. I just didn't want you to leave with a bitter memory toward something that could have potential. I've met many nice people through here and commissions as well. Because it's a vast window to people all over the world, and since most of them are not professional, you can investigate what's hot in the younger generations, and, as a designer it's a good thing to know your audiences... but you can do that anywhere else. I'm not trying to keep you in DA! Again, it's just sad to leave anywhere with a bitter after taste.
